Applied Mathematics and Physics and Engineering Application

Supported by: CPS Energy, UTSA, SAISD

As a result of an agreement between CPS Energy, UTSA and several San Antonio school districts, we have created two introductory courses in mathematics and physics with engineering applications. These courses are taught to area high school students who wish to continue their study in the field of engineering in a CPS facility located in Southeast San Antonio. Typically the mathematics course is taught during fall and the physics course is taught during the spring semester by Professor Thomas Morrow, an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering. After completion of these courses, students will have two dual credit courses (the equivalents at UTSA are Calculus I and Physics I) that can be used towards their engineering degree. The program has been very successful and currently is in its third year of operation. Typically 20-25 students are selected annually to participate in this program.
