About the College of Engineering

Offering nine graduate degree programs, the UTSA College of Engineering (COE) is one of the nation's leading producers of Hispanic engineers. The college’s four departments—Biomedical Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering—have prepared thousands of graduates for successful careers in the public sector, private sector and higher education.

Over the past eight years, the college has experienced unprecedented growth with a 101 percent increase in student enrollment and a tenfold increase in extramural research funding. COE faculty are national and international leaders in communications security, biomedical engineering, aging aircraft/structures, manufacturing, water resources and transportation.

In addition to its own dedicated Engineering Building, the COE operates out of UTSA’s $84 million, 227,000-square-foot Biotechnology, Sciences and Engineering Building, which opened in 2006 and features high-tech classrooms, state-of-the-art laboratories and modern computing networks. The second phase of this project—the $90 million, 150,000-square-foot teaching and research Applied Engineering and Technology Building featuring the most sophisticated technology for an information-intensive environment—opened in the fall of 2009.
